IIITB : Preparing for the Online Exam

Now here you are, at the most important part-The Preparation. Well there's nothing to be feared or getting tensed. These exams are all about testing your capabilities. If you are pretty sure about what you can do, then you are there. I will be dividing the article in two parts i.e, Online Exam and Interview(Follow the link provided) and I will be short.

Online Exam :
The first hurdle, and you need to be fast and smart at the same time. If you have not appeared any competitive exams before then take this as a must suggestion. You ought to be fast and value each second in a minute.
The exam will be for some odd 2 hours and you will have 3 sections, viz, APTITUDE, MATHS and PROGRAMMING.

Aptitude: This section consists of some basic English questions(Articles, Prepositions, Sentence Completion, Antonyms, Synonyms etc), Logical questions and some tricky questions. They are easy but needs some practice. As you have limited time for each section and have to finish within the slotted time so you need to know some tricks to do the calculations and solve the questions fast. Just grab a book and start solving. Practice is the best method to master these problems.

Maths: This in fact is the most difficult part and contains the maximum questions. Your maths needs to be strong to solve this section easily. Questions basically cover 10 and 12 level maths starting from Logic, Trigonometry, Co-ordinate Geometry, Derivatives, Integration etc. Some questions are tough and the others are of moderate level. This section also needs lot of practice. Learn all the formulas well as you will not be in position to waste time remembering the formulas in the exam. All are MCQ type questions and you need to select the right option amongst four.

Programming: This section consists of around 15 to 20 questions. The questions will be related to Computer Fundamentals, Basic Programming in C or C++ and some computer related questions. This section is not that tough and you just need to have your basics strong and you will come up with flying colors.

Just go to the exam center free minded and do well. Frankly speaking the cutoff is not made public and you will be intimated through mail about your interview dates. So its better to go and do as much as you can without worrying about the outcome. So all the best for the preparation and do well. For any queries do post the questions. ALL THE BEST !!

    1. Hey Manali,
      Thanks for dropping your comment.
I will surely suggest you some means which will help you.
R.S.Aggrawal - The best book for aptitude preparation. You can even get a lot of maths stuff in the same book. Just get hold of the book and start solving. Get through the formulas well and practice as much as you can.
I took CAT coaching so it was not that tough for me as I was used to solve even harder problems I got in this exam.
And as you are an IT student, so you must be quite good in programming. But get your basics cleared as you can expect some theory questions as well.
You can follow this link http://www.iiitb.ac.in/pages/online-exam-information/ and get the sample question paper to get a gist of the questions you get.
So all I can say is prepare well. ALL THE BEST !!
For any more queries, feel free to comment.
      Regards

  2. Hi Satyam,
Really an awesome post.I will be appearing for IIITB's EE..so I need ur help regarding questions in Entrance exam...like wat Topics are being stressed upon specifically in Maths..in quantitative section mainly...(apart from basic apti qstns in analytical part)as in their sample questions they havn't specified any particular topic...!!ur advice and suggestions will realyy help me a lot...!!
    Thanks..!!
    Harsh...

  3. Hi Harsh,
Quantitative questions will cover all the basic math topics with some stress on geometry, linear algebra etc. But that doesn't mean you leave the other topics. As far as I remember I got questions of the form " If 5 men can do a task in 7 days and 8 women can do the same task in 12 days, then how many days will 3 men and 5 women take to do the same work together?" I got around 5-7 of the same genre. So expect to get questions of such kinds where you will simply be tested your problem solving capabilities. If you have sat for any campus written exams then this exam is also of the same kind.
Only practice as much as you can and all the best for your exam.
If you have further queries do post.

  4. Thanks for the reply Satyam....!!So for preparation R.S.Agarwal would be enuff..??or should I also need to stress over typical engineering maths like diffrentiation, integration, probability, set theory, graph theory ,discrete maths(including boolean algebra)etc...??
Well...!!to tell you u hav done a gr8 job by creating this blog ....it relly does helps a lot....:)
    Thanks..!!

  5. hii Harsh,
Frankly speaking I did not solve RS Aggrawal. I prepared for CAT so these questions were obvious to me...But I would say that the level was not that difficult....But as far as I know, RS Aggrawal is the best for these sort of sections...But why to take a risk...Prepare these sections as well with just basic knowledge to solve questions...They wont be like Professional level questions and some basic knowledge of them will do the trick....
While I was in the same state as you, I also used to find ways to get help but was unable to find any good source....So I thot to come up with this series of posts to help out people.....I hope that I m able to do so....So plz share these thots to your frends who are aspirants of IIITB....It will definitely solve my purpose...
    Regards,
    Satyam.

    1. Hiii Harsh,
Among the various IIIT's, Hyderabad is the best in all regards...But IIITB is also a good college in respect to studies and placements.......You will get to study under Professors who are really world class.
Regarding packages, minimum is around 5 lpa , avg around 7 lpa and highest was 16 lpa this year.

    any help is welcome !!
    ty in advance

  8. Hii Ashwin,
I don't think you will find it anywhere else. But you can try googling it out....I have not tried that..It is not that famous as IIT's so coaching institutes does not dug into to get the question papers.
The one given in the college website is the pattern...All you need to do is practice similar kinds of questions...

    1. Hii Amit,
This is indeed a critical situation..In that case the decision of college will be final....You wait for 1-2 days and if you don't get a reply mail then give a call to the admission cell of IIITB and share your problem. hope they will change your center..but can't guarantee though..

  10. Hey Satyam,
Thanks for such a blog first of all.
Now I want to ask can u please tell me wat is the minimum number of questions to attempt in each sections to be safe(or how much did u attempt).
Also in the English section do they ask Comprehension passages.

    Waiting for ur reply.
    Shanti Malik

  11. Hey Shanti,
There is nothing as such...you attempt as much as you can coz the cutoff doesnt remain the same...So go for all the questions that you feel you can answer...No passages are asked...only objective type questions....As for me I attempted almost all the questions from aptitude and computer part...and more than half of the maths section questions....

    Satyam.

Complexity ranges from easy to tough....Expect to get questions from all range...Just the same as any other entrance xams...If you have appeared any campus written exams for jobs then this is also of the same genre..

    1. Hey Priya,
To be very honest I don't remember as I appeared lot of exams at that time and also its almost one year back....Coordinate geometry is must....But its not advisable to take a risk....So prepare all the topics...They will be generally basic level questions which can be easily solved...The ones which you solved in Engineering and for Campus Placements....

I am Keyur, I have given exam on 8th april, 2012. During online exam, they give a paper to note down the answers which we had marked. but unfortunately i thought to write it down at last. but as time finished i cold not find any details and this was also not clarified by our supervisor, so many students end with this problem. 17. Hi Satyam,

I completed my B.TECH. in Computer Science & Engineering from NIT in 2003 (yep! it has been a long time now). Please suggest if I appear in EE for IIIT then will they consider my profile. Much appreciated!

    Thanks.

  18. Getting into IIM is a real dream for many students. But all the traditional coaching classes focus on accumulating students in batches of large number thus prevent the potentials students from getting a good score too. Look out for one on one CAT coaching that focuses on YOU alone.

IIIT Bangalore interview

You would also like Preparing for Interview , Getting into IIITB ,  Preparing for Online Exam , and FAQ on MS in IIITB We reached the campus for the interview 5 minutes before the scheduled time. I attended a lot of interviews before this but the interview at IIITB seemed special. A little bit of tension and the joy to be in Bangalore balanced my psyche as my brother parked the car in the parking lot. He was my cousin’s friend who was there to accompany me as he himself was a student of IIITB . Nevertheless, both of us went to the help desk located at the main gate where I had to verify myself as me. Then we were handed over a paper which listed all the process that was going to be held and was directed to the main building. Impressive as we already knew what all we had to do without any problem. So we headed towards the main building. It looked great from outside with some perfect combination of colors and a large logo at the top. The campus was tidy enough which seemed to h

IIITB : Preparing for the Interview

Congratulations if you cleared the Written Exam. Just one more step and you are through. Interview is the most important part in any selection process. It is here that you get the chance to prove yourself in front of the professionals. So if you are confident of your knowledge and presentability then there is no need to worry. Interview is conducted for three days in a row for all the MTech students(There are around 1000 students called for interview). You will be allotted a day and will be asked to report to the college on the specified day. The process will basically cover the whole day with many events like Document clarifications, Biometric Scans, Interview etc. The Interview is a one-to-one process where you will be interviewed by a Professor of the college. The interview will last for around 20 minutes where you will be asked several questions which you need to answer precisely. The questions will be all typical interview questions like:                     1. What is your
