We reached the campus for the interview 5 minutes before the scheduled time. I attended a lot of interviews before this but the interview at IIITB seemed special. A little bit of tension and the joy to be in Bangalore balanced my psyche as my brother parked the car in the parking lot. He was my cousin’s friend who was there to accompany me as he himself was a student of IIITB. Nevertheless, both of us went to the help desk located at the main gate where I had to verify myself as me. Then we were handed over a paper which listed all the process that was going to be held and was directed to the main building. Impressive as we already knew what all we had to do without any problem. So we headed towards the main building. It looked great from outside with some perfect combination of colors and a large logo at the top. The campus was tidy enough which seemed to have a great maintenance with a lush green lawn adding to the beauty.
We entered the building where I could see huge serpentine queues of padhaku students waiting to get their interview call letter verified. I followed the trend with a great doubt of qualifying against them. Finally my turn came and I could see that the verifiers were the students of the college itself. After verifying they directed me towards the conference room which was already packed up with students and their parents. While heading towards the conference hall I saw the college interiors which had an impression that we are checking into a five-star hotel. Suddenly my urge to study here got increased which even boasted my confidence. After reaching the hall I found that a lot of seniors were trying to control the overall process by calling out the students. I could hardly find a place for me but did not have a problem as one of the seniors came and arranged a seat for me. I sat down and tried to relax a bit. I saw a big board in front which was divided into five parts. All the parts were showing some information regarding the college, the interview process, and the placements and so on. The seniors seemed quite cooperative as they fulfilled the queries of each student without a kink of hesitation. They were calling out the students with their registration number where each student was to have a biometric verification after which they will be proceeded towards the document verification section. So I waited for my turn to come. The student next to me was brushing up for the interview and had his GATE Scorecard on top which had 48 printed on it. I tried to console myself as I could manage only 17.33. Then I avoided him and looked around the room. Everyone was busy preparing, so I also tried to recall the topics which I will present at the interview. After a long wait finally my registration number was called and I went ahead. Completing all the proceedings, I was then forwarded to the document verification section. There were three queues each preceded by a lady who seemed to be the faculty of the college. There again I had to wait for sometime when finally my turn came. The lady asked for all my certificates- original as well as the photocopy. I had already arranged them in order as stated and she verified them with ease. Then she took all the photocopies and stapled them while returned the original copies back to me. The stapled lot was handed over to a senior who then accompanied me to the waiting room. “The interview will take place within fifteen minutes” said one of the seniors. Instantaneously all my confidence started evaporating and I realized the tension surrounding me. But suddenly my brother came to my rescue and took me to show the college. As we had fifteen minutes so we quickly took a small tour of the campus. We went to the hostel, the boundaries, and the buildings and finally back to the war zone. On my return the senior took a bunch of students including me to the interview section. We made a queue and followed him like school students. On reaching the interview section we all sat down on the chairs provided until our names were called. Amazingly a man came and called out all the names of the girls present and took them. I was indignant with the mere show of favoritism towards women but waited for my turn without any protest. Suddenly that man came again, called out my name and instructed me to follow. He led me to a room for my interview process.
I took a deep breath and entered the room with my file. There was an old man with some of the last hairs on his head waiting for me to enter. He looked at me through his spectacles, greeted me and then offered to sit down. I too greeted him and sat down. He seemed quite friendly and hence I gained confidence. Without wasting a single bit of time he went through the stapled photocopies and threw the first question towards me. “Well Satyam tell me about you and do add something which I would really love to know”. Now that was an easy question as I started with my name, my family, occupation of parents, my schooling, college, marks, hobbies and finally added that I love to collect small Ganesha showpieces, love to visit different places, scored 1230 in GRE and already have an offer letter from MINDTREE. He listened to all this with much curiosity and it seemed that he got impressed. Among so many listings about me, he liked my collection of Ganesha and asked, “How many do you have at present and do you know that Ganesha idols are available in different forms like six packs Ganesha, Ganesha playing cricket and likely. I had my answer in an instant stating that at present I have around 20 unique pieces and that I have learnt about these various forms from the internet. I don’t have them but I would love to collect if I get them. He said good and asked whether I have been offered the joining date in MINDTREE. I clarified that I have the offer letter but the joining letter will be notified later. He nodded his head and said, “You were asked to prepare a topic. So please go ahead”. I said yes when he suddenly forwarded a pen and a paper to explain. I denied the offering and said that I would rather use the white board to explain. He got impressed and said “good”. I went ahead recalling all the topics from my preparation of Mobile Communication. I knew that this was the only chance to prove myself and I went along. I explained all the topics covering how mobile system works, how a call is transferred between users, how data gets transferred, about base stations, about frequency reuse with the maximum possible diagrams. The man listened as if he is my student asking questions in between. Suddenly he poked me and told to come back and sit down. I cleaned the board and sat down. Then he spoke, “We need this presentation to see certain points and I have got what I wanted. From your file I see that you have pursued your higher studies from Bhubaneswar while you belong to Kolkata. Why so?” I tried to convince him by saying that I wanted to go out and study as my native place Barrackpore is a small town. And as Bhubaneswar was the nearest so by default it was the first choice. Then he asked why I wanted to do an MTech. I stated that during my Btech I learnt many things and wanted to give a shine to my learning. Moreover before entering a professional life I wanted to finish my higher studies. He went on and asked that do I have any programming knowledge. I stated about my knowledge which I acquired during my graduation and have the potential to write programs. Then he said,”OK great. Anything you would want to know”. I went ahead and asked “Tell me something about you?”. He said his name and told that he is a professor of the same institute and runs a company named RADIX which is situated on the first floor of the same building. Then I asked about the college and the relationship between the teacher and the student. He answered that this college has a very good decorum and the college is a good place for learning. He also added that if you get a chance to study here then you will surely love the college. Then he returned my file and had a handshake stating “Nice to meet you”. I thanked him and went out with a little bit of joy that I did not ruin the interview and have a stand to get selected.
Finally on May 11, 2011 I got the good news of my selection. I received an email from IIITB stating that I have been selected to pursue my Mtech from the institution.
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am currently working for Infosys,Hyderabad with ten months of experience.
My credentials include
- an aggregate of 91% in 10th
- an aggregate of 87% in 12th
- an aggregate of 71.71% in B.E Computer Science pursued from VTU.
My query is my B.E aggregate low enough to apply for Mtech course at IIIT-B?
Regards
Sridivya
@Sridivya j Hey you have an excellent career. Dont worry about your B.E marks as it will be compensated by your other marks. Moreover the marks is not the only criteria for selection.Your written exam score, interview performance and the marks combined together forms the portfolio for selection. In addition you have about one year experience which will really count. If you are interested to do M.Tech then I would really ask you to go ahead and apply.Do well in all other sections and you do have a good stand for selection. All da best for your future.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Satyam Roy.
Hi Satyam
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
Its just that my B.E marks that were bothering me :)
I have worked on one project with Bank of America..now i am into the second one with Cisco..(@Infosys)
so by the time its next year i will be having 1.5years of experience..
so all are fine right?:)
Regards
Sridivya
Hey Sridivya,
ReplyDeleteyeah its all fine with your profile..and the two projects will help you..Do mention all these things in your interview and be prepared to answer many questions from the interviewer..so hope to see you next year...ALL THE BEST.

Satyam
Hi satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am in dilemma whether to join IIIT bangalore or not.AT present I am working in TCS but i want to pursue higher education in computer science.Because of financial constraints M.S is not an option for me.I have couple of questions.
How is IIIT banglore when compared to IIT m.tech?
Will it add any value to my career as I am going to invest two years?Besides money is also important apart from knowledge :).
How are the placements? The placement offered in IIITB is at par with those offered to MBA grads?
I am asking too many questions but it will help me to decide my future. Please answer my queries as you are studying there.
Thanks in advance.
@sourav Hey don't get confused regarding the college selection as IIITB is one of the best college I know. It's not bcoz I m studyn here but bcoz I really felt it after coming here. If you really want to learn then this institute is probably the best selection. You will be grooved into situations where you won't have any option other than learning.
ReplyDeleteIts not fair to compare IIIT's and IIT's and IIM's. They all have their own edges. But this college mtech also has great values and you can count on me regarding that.
Regarding placements: The placements are quite good with an average package of around 7-8 lakhs per annum with good bunch of companies visiting the college.
One more thing i wud add is that the faculty over here are awesome and I bet that you will rarely get such facilities provided here.
Hope I was able to connect well. If u hav any more queries then feel free to post it. I ll reply them as soon as possible.
Regards
Satyam.
Thanks!Sorry for my late reply...
ReplyDeleteYou really answered my queries.I am more interested in pursuing M.tech and i love technology, the only thing that bothers me is what if again after two years i land up in tcs or infy like companies;no offence meant but frankly these are service based companies and work here is not challenging or interesting.
Besides in India most of the engineers land up in service based IT companies that rarely give an opportunity to use your knowledge and skills.
I checked the official placements for IIITB,looks impressive but was wondering why companies like google or yahoo haven't visited it..considering its reputation kinda curious about the same :).
Just would like to know the job that is offered...
Hey Sourav,
ReplyDeleteCampusing is good over here...Regarding Google, their requirements are very low nd its hard to predict their campus visit...I hope Google visited the campus once.... Moreover placements for our seniors have startd frm today itself with Cisco being the first company...If u r interstd to know then i ll post the details of the placements once i get it.
regards,
Satyam.
Thanks a lot Satyam...Ya if you can post the details along with salary offered,it will be gr8 as rarely its available on internet from any reliable source.
ReplyDeleteHi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI ended up with your blog while I was googling through the life @ IIITB.Kudos!,Very well written.
Myself a BE 2011 pass out and got campus placed in HP R&D, Bangalore.I'm planning for higher studies.I wanted to know if it would be a good choice if I leave the job I have and get into IIITB for MTech. To brief a little about my profile, I plan to join MTech after 1 or 2 year from now and I'm looking forward to have my own technology start-up after an MTech.I thought MBA from IIM's would not help much as I aim for a techn start-up.
1.Could you please suggest me your opinion on that while you find time??
2.Would that be a good decision to leave an R&D job at HP for MTech @IIITB?
3.Also, what would be the scope/usefulness of course considering that I would go with my own Start up while I pursue my MTech?
Would Really appreciate if you could reply when you find time.
Thank You,
Abhijith
Hey Abhijith,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment. I must say that you hav a very good aspiration in life.
From my own experience, what i came to know over here is that you will be in a higher end if you have a job xperience. So my suggestion is that you have an xperience of 2 years and then apply for Mtech.
I think that if you have the potential to grab an R&D job after BE then you can really do well after MTech. Moreover this clg can really give you opportunities to learn things and then implement them in real life.
Regarding your future plans, this clg has an Incubation cell where people with new start up ideas are endorsed. Endorsements generally come from entrepreneurs who needs to be satisfied with your proposal. So you will have huge scope to learn and then start your own venture.
So in a nutshell, more than half of the batch are xperience fellows. Even people from Adobe, Set-Labs hav come here to pursue their Mtech. Its completely your decision whether you want to study or continue with your job.
From my part I can suggest that you can rightly have your MTech done coz jobs come and go but its knowledge you gain in the long run. Hope I could connect well.
Do reply back if you have any further queries.
Regards,
Satyam.
Hey satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am currently in 12th and from this year onwards iiitb will start 5year integrated mtech program.i am a serious iit aspirant and want to know the facilities offered here and to compare iitb or iitd cse or iiithyd cse or iiitb.as the cse programs will complete in 4 years while iiitb course is of 5 yrs duration.whats ur take on it? btw very well written article.
Hiii,
ReplyDeleteAs the program is going to start from this year itself so we all are curious to know how it will be. If you are serious about iit then I would advice you to try for iit only. Even IIIT Hyd is quite good and is ranked alongwith the IIT's.
So what I would suggest is prepare well for the IIT's or IIIT Hyd. Keep IIIT Bangalore as your choice after these institutes.
Moreover this is an integrated course wherein you save 1 year and get a MTech degree. The campusing for MTech is quite good and you can completely count on me regarding it. The faculty is also very good. Now its upto you to decide what you want to do. Think well, talk with your parents and decide after your exam results are declared.
Hope I could answer your questions.
Feel free to ask questions.
Regards,
Satyam.
what is the gate rank required to get exam waiver??Iam from ECE stream.I have 97.35 percentile in gate .86.7% in btech,97.6% in +2and 95.2% in X.
ReplyDeletewhat are my prosprcts of getting into iiib?does iiitb has 100% placement??
awaiting ur reply..Thanking you.
Hey
ReplyDeleteYou have an excellent record....The gate percentile you have is enough to get you the exam waiver but I wonder that it is an old score...I am not sure whether they accept gate scores of previous years as well so you need to check that with the college website.... Regarding your scores you just remain pretty sure to get through all the steps....All you need to do is perform well in the interview and I think you can crack it quite easily.....
Yeah IIITB has 100% placement records as far as I know and the company list is also good....And plz mention your name as well while commenting....
Regards,
Satyam
Hey Satyam
ReplyDeleteI have 80%-10th,78%-12th,and 75%-at Btech(ECE 2011).
I have given this year's GATE but not expecting much.I have also worked at Huawei Bangalore for 4.5 months (but left it due to personal reasons). Now I want to do Mtech.can I have a seat at IITB as I am 2011 passout.
Please guide.
Hello (plz mention ur name),
ReplyDeleteI cant say whether u can have a seat or not.....that depends on your performance in the interview.....As you r not expecting much from ur gate, so I would recommend you to take the written exam(details available in the official website of college). Do well in the exam. Your marks are enough to get you into the college. All you need to do is perform well in the written and the interview as well.
Regards
Satyam.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have 88.5% in X standard, 94.7% in 12th standard and 70.79% in B.Tech and currently I hold 1 yr 8 months of experience as SAP developer at Deloitte.
Any key inputs for the entrance exam preparation, as I have to manage my preparation along with my work load.
I'm very much interested in pursuing my M.Tech from IIIT B.
Your inputs would be of much help for me.
Thanks,
Sandeep
Hii Sandeep,
ReplyDeleteSee as a suggestion I will say that it is all about aptitude testing. You must have sat for campus written exams after BTech, so this exam is quite similar.
You just need to have some hold on problem solving with simple English type questions and basic Computer Science Questions. The maths section questions are mostly mediocre and few tough questions.
Questions of the genre "If 5 men can do a work in 3 days and 6 women can do the same work in 5 days, the how many days will 3 men and 2 women take to finish the work together". I got atleast around 6 -7 questions of this type. One best resource I would say is R.S.Aggrawal. Just take out some time each day and solve the problems of the book and you are through.
Hope I was able to answer your queries.
Regards Satyam.
hi...satyam....got a lot of information about iiit b from your blog...thanks a lot.Can you through some light into the placement scenario. Actually i already work in a IT services major and would not like to go back into that area...can you plz help by providing your views??
ReplyDeleteHello Rajat,
ReplyDeleteSee this college is mainly oriented to get you placed in the IT industries only, but you will get some best profiles in there. Companies like Cisco, Emc2, IBM, Siemens, Duestche Bank, Intuit, Samsung etc visit the campus with good profiles with an average pay of around 7 lpa. Embedded stream has been started in full fledged from this year and teachers hope to get them placed as well. Companies like Broadcom will come for such streams. So it depends on you where you want to go. But I can surely say that you will get an improved profile to work on than what you do at present.
Regards,
Satyam.
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response.
Yeah, it was helpful.
Thanks,
-Sandeep
thanks..satyam...for your views.....according to you what should be the proper time for enrolling into mtech at your clg..i hv a year of exp..and i am thinking of trying for it after i complete my 2 yrs ...
ReplyDeletedoes a exp provides a edge?? i am interested in the database area...what is the scope can u plz share??what are the best areas at iiit-b regarding infrastructure and also placements...thanx a lot for your help!!!!!
Hii Rajat,
ReplyDeleteYeah experience obviously provides an edge..You will have some prior knowledge which will help you to grab things easily and take the full advantage...It is upto you that when you want to apply... Experience will also help you during placements when experienced guys will obviously be preferred over freshers...Database is perhaps the most popular stream in this college with trends of maximum placements in this field in the recent years...Scope is good with some very nice subjects in offering..
Placement is undoubtedly good for all the streams...As database is well established in this college so you will get good infrastructure with some best faculties in the field..
Regards,
Satyam.
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI have 79%,85%,77%and 99.2%ile in Xth,XIIth and Gate exam. Will I able to get MTech in IIITB.?
I want to know the internship carried out by the student in iiitb. It is written in the website that whole last semester will be in the form of internship.
Hey Sachin,
DeleteYour marks are enough to let you through all the stages quite easily....Rest all depends on your performance in all the stages, viz, written and interview.....Yes it is written correctly in the website...The students are entitled to a whole semester internship in a company for which campus interviews are done...But it is not mandatory as students can write thesis as well....
Regards,
Satyam
Hi Satyam..
ReplyDeletemyself Ranjit...
I am from mumbai university...
my 10th=76%
12th=79%
n Btech= 68%
n gate score can be around 35
..are there any chance of getting into IIITB..i read all the posts..they are so helping...
is it necessary to have 70% above in Btech or good GATE score..
if possible can you also tell me your whole academic performance...
hey Ranjit,
ReplyDeleteIt is completely unpredictable about how much is exactly necessary to get into the college...Many students apply and based on their academic performance and interview performance few get selected... Its not mentioned anywhere about how much is exactly necessary to get into the college...It depends about who u r and how u perform....So if u are an aspirant of getting into the college, then you can apply and then give a superb performance....
As for my academic performance, I have an above 80% career....
regards,
satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteYour blog has been really helpful.
I am planning to write the iiit-b entrance this year and i have over 3+ years of experience.
I wanted to know the number of people who actually go for ph.d after the mtech program here and if so the kind of colleges they get admission into.
thanks,
Akshay
hi satyam
ReplyDeletemy name is Neeraj.I have 89%,81%,74%and 729(AIR 642),640(AIR 1159) in Xth,XIIth,college grad(till today),gate 2011, gate 2012 repectively. I'm a fresher.Did i have any chance of getting admission in iiitb
Hii Niraj,
DeleteYeah you have a good profile and its good enough to get you into this institute...I am not sure about the gate score but if you get a call for the interview then you stand a good chance to get selected...Did you apply for the entrance test or Gate Waiver??
Regards,
Satyam.
Yeah i have applied for the entrance test.
Deleteand i want to know what is actually gate waiver and what is the procedure for the admission of candidates with valid gate score
thanks
Hii Niraj,
DeleteSee each year students are called for interview directly through their performance in GATE if you apply for it....Each year the cutoff changes as per the number of students applying for it...So if you have applied for it and you get a waiver, then you will be intimated before the written exam and you will be directly called for interview...But the cutoff is not fixed and so its not wise to comment on it..
Regards,
Satyam
Hii Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThis Anuj here, I am Btech(ECE) 2011 passout with 75% throught.
I want to ask wat are my chances of admission in this institution as I am highly impressed by the ur writings and have interest in Embedded and System Programming. And please tell me how to prepare for the online test(being an ECE student).
hii Anuj,
DeleteAnyone having a career above 75% stand a good chance of selection...You just need to pass the written and do well in the interview....I myself is an ECE student and to be true the written exam is for all...No distinction between CSE and ECE student as the questions are aptitude and maths questions with few basic programming questions...Just prepare well..You can see my post "Preparing for the online exam" to get a gist of it..
Regards,
Satyam
Thanks Satyam
ReplyDeleteBut need to ask I am 2011 pass out will this be not a hindrance for me.
Hii Anuj,
DeleteI don't think it will cause a problem..What did you do this one year?? You may get such a question in interview which you need to answer carefully. And all the best for your exams. Do post if you have any other queries.
Regards,
Satyam
Satyam,
ReplyDeleteActually I was working at Huawei Bangalore but left after around 4 months, because of immense work pressure, actually I was performing well initially and also have done a project on Springs-Hibernate technology (just by reading some books and internet research)but later felt that it will not pay me in the long run so thought of going for higher studies then give a head start. But GATE was a disaster.
So,help me out to re-build,really needing some good advice.
Thanks
Anuj
Hey Anuj,
ReplyDeleteThat's fine....it happens quite a time in each one's life...Don't worry much...You have actually made a good decision to have your further studies....I would suggest you to write the written xam of IIITB....You exactly have 2 weeks and you can easily clear the test with little bit of hard work...just work hard for the coming 2 months and I guarantee you will be right on your tracks once again...Take this as a must suggestion...Don't get panicked and start working...
Regards,
Satyam.
hey Satyam,

hiii Anonymous,

Hey Vishal,
DeleteThanks for the compliment.... Most probably you will get the xam waiver and directly get a call for the interview...But I can't guarantee as it changes every year....Do good in the interview and you have a pretty good chance for selection...
Regards,
Satyam
hi satyam,
ReplyDeletei got 78.8 in 10th
94.8 in 12th
73.3 in btech
97.9 in gate
do i have a chance of getting exam waiver..pls do give me some tips to crack the interview..
Hey Vamsi,
ReplyDeleteAs per your result you do have a fair chance to get the xam waiver...But again that's not a guarantee....And regarding interview, read my article "Preparing for the Interview"...You will get some valuable tips over there...
Hey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteon the site they have specified that tomorrow they would put up the list of canditates who got the exam waiver. At what time exactly will they display it? and where should we check for it?
Hey Myth,
DeleteI am completely unaware of the this.....U ll surely find it in the same site in MTech admissions section...Have a look and you will find it.
Regards,
Satyam.
Hey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteOn the website they have specified that the list of candidates who got the exam waiver will be put up tomorrow. at what time exactly will the names be put up and where should i check for it?
Hi Satyam Da,
ReplyDeleteI have a Gate Rank of 1543 (score 611 and marks 53.67), CGPA -> 8.63, 10+2 -> 87.8%, 10 -> 82.25%. I applied for IIIT Bangalore. What are my chances of getting the exam waiver?
-Diptarka
Hey Diptarka,
DeleteLast year students with a Gate percentile above 93 got a Gate Waiver.....But the scenario changes accordingly....I guess the college will announce the results today so just wait for some time and you will get to know..
Regards,
Satyam.
If it is above 93 percentile then I am easily getting it, as mine being 99.02 percentile
DeleteYeah with that percentile you are almost sure to get it...In that case all da best for your interview
DeleteHai Satyam
ReplyDeletethanks a lot.your blog has been quite a informative one.I got the entrance exam waiver.I am from an ece background.I would really like to do mtech in Vlsi and embedded system. But IIITb will give me the masters degree in IT .Actually I am really confused about it.one more thing the name of the semiconductor companies given in IIITB website(who visited previously)...i would like to know what kind of profile they have offered for the freshers. And regarding the interview topics.....would they intimidate me beforehand.i would be thankful 2 u if u can find time 2 answer my quiries...
Shuvra Saha
Hey Shuvra,
DeleteWell this is an IT college which offers Embedded System as a stream...Actually I am not so sure about the companies visiting but as far as I know they offer good profiles...I would like to say that placements of the college is really well and you need not worry...The faculty is extremely good....Regarding topics of interview, it depends on you which topic you want to choose....
Regards,
Satyam
hi Satyam, this is really a very informative blog, your patience in answering the questions is really commendable.I have been all over the internet searching for info on IIIT bangalore,at last I found a blog which would answer most of my queries. My brother finished graduation last year,he worked with a software company for a year,he wants to pursue his higher education in communications field,it is his first priority, his GATE percentile is 96.7,he got the exam waiver. Can you give some information on "Networking and communications" course in your college. How are the lab facilities and the faculty? I am not expecting any world class facilities or faculty but I just want to know whether students are being made to work on projects related to their domains, are the faculty good enough to guide their students??I am also curious whether Intel has visited your campus till now?? He is also applying for other institutes like IIIT hyderabad but they don't have this communications course,so we are eager to know about the college before taking any decision.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful blog,
Regards,
Hey shiva,
DeleteThanks for dropping your comment....Networking and Communication branch contains the most placed students from our immediate senior's batch till now.....The faculties are extremely good and I must say world class....Students will get to work in their domains with a dedicated guidance from the faculties....Yes Intel has visited the campus with lot more other companies as well....
Regards,
Satyam.
respected Satyam sir..
ReplyDeletei have qualified gate 2012 exam with 46 marks with cs stream..

i dont have any kind of java and my project knowledge..
i have selected for interview, now what should i do for seletion in iiitb....i had also cleared the vertex software written exam but failed in interview due to lack of knowledge in my major project..
Hii Pankaj,
DeleteFirst of all no "Sir".....We all call each other by names....
Its not a problem if you don't have a knowledge in Java....Most of us didn't have when we came....You need to present your capability that you can learn which is what the interviewer will look for...For interview question types read "Preparing for the interview" in the same blog
Regards,
Satyam.

ReplyDeleteso finally i've got wavier.. :-)

Hey Vishal,
DeleteCongrats....It depends on you what topic you want to choose....If its your project and you are pretty confident of it, then be it so....Nothing has to do much with your gate score....It all depends on your interview....For interview question types read my article "Preparing for the Interview"

--Akshay
Hey Akshay,
DeleteWell to start of with, RS Aggrawal is just enough...It seems that you have prepared for GRE and if so then the Verbal section will be quite in your reach...Analytical and Aptitude is of medium level which can be answered easily if you have basic knowledge of the subjects....

Hi satyam da,
ReplyDeleteI got an exam waiver.i m a cs student. Can u tell me what sort of topics do we need to present-topics relating to new technologies or topics from our b tech curriculum i.e. topics related to specific subjs or our project work???and what would be the most apropriate way of presenting the topic??using the white board or showing the slides in lappy that i have prepared?bcz in some cases it becomes difficult while explaining through a board where lots of diagrams are involved.waiting for your suggestion.
-Asmita
Hello Asmita,
DeleteCongrats for getting the waiver.!! Topics can be anything that you wish but you should have a good knowledge on it....No hard bounds like new topics...I presented my BTech topic which i had in my 8 Semester...A small topic on Mobile Communication....It is simply to check your potential to understand the topic and present it before the teacher....Again it depends whether you want to use the white board or the laptop...If you can explain the topic well then you are through....
Regards,
Satyam.
hello satyam da,
ReplyDeleteYour blog has been a huge source of inspiration for me.I came across it while preparing for my GATE exams and now finally when I received the mail confirming my exam waiver,I couldn't be happier!!
The have mentioned that the interview will be held around 2-3rd may.
I had some doubts about the process of the interview:-
1.) do we select a topic of our own choice or is the topic given out by the interviewer?
2.)what kind of technical questions will be asked? (i am a computer science student)?
3.)i am a fresher and do not have any work experience, is this a drawback?? (though i have done my industrial training in java swing and asp.net)
4.) will they also be asking about the above mentioned projects??
hope you answer my queries as soon as possible dada. Eagerly looking forward to your mail :)
thank you,
Manali patnaik
Hey Manali,
DeleteTopics are your own choice.....Interview will be of typical interview questions(See my article "Preparing for the Interview")...The freshers are given equal weightage as the experience holders(I myself is a fresher)....They might ask about your project, but they basically want to know whether you have a knowledge in programming...
Regards,
Satyam
Thank you very much Satyam da :):)
DeleteI was very apprehensive about my chances as i am a fresher but you have really given me some confidence now.
Keep on doing the great work.
God bless you :)
Hi satyam,
ReplyDeletei am ria.2011 passout with 10th-87% 12th 74.5% b.tech 8.14(cgpa) and gate 2011 92%ile.i didnt get waiver.i hoped to prepare well for gate this yr but score was not good.i just wasted 1 yr.will this 1 yr gap without work experience be a big hindrance in my admission to iiitb.
hello Ria,
DeleteNot at all a problem...Instead prepare well for the written....Experience is not at all a criteria for admission in this college...
Regards,
Satyam.
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThis is Siva.I have applied for IIIT B M.Tech 2012 intake.I am a 2011 passed out with 88%in 10th,85% in 12th and 75 in B.Tech(Electrical)I don't have a GATE score and have applied for Entrance exam of IIIT B.How will be the entrance exam questions??and what will be questions from computers(I am Electrical graduate)??Also it is mentioned in IIIT B Site that there will be sectional cut off.I would like to know the % of sectional cut off in each section. Please reply me ??
With Regards,
Siva
hey Siva,
ReplyDeleteThe entrance xam questions will be typical campus placement questions.....Read my article("Preparing for the Online Exam")...There will be around 15 basic questions from Computer Science which includes a bit pf programming knowledge....Sectional cutoff depends each year and is not fixed so I can't comment on that.
Regards,
Satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeletethanks for all the information.I would like to know about the MS BY RESEARCH program at IIIT-B.First and the foremost thing i would like to ask is "ARE THEY ELIGIBLE FOR ALL THE PLACEMENTS FOR WHICH MTECH GUYS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR? and will there be a difference in the packages"....can you please answer this question in detail because the same question when put many MTECH pursuing people, gave me a absurd reply.I would be highly obliged if you can throw a detailed knowledge about the "PLACEMENT OPPURTUNITIES OF MS by RESEARCH" students.
Hey Srilu,
ReplyDeleteActually I don't have much knowledge about the MS program....I ve a friend who is doing MS in VLSI Design...According to him, all MS students are eligible for the jobs as MTech and even better in their respective fields...A senior who did her MS in Program Testing got a job in Yahoo with a package of 12.5 lpa....But it depends and is not the same for each student....But the average package fluctuates around 7 lpa and is better than the MTech students.
Hope this could clear most of your doubts.
Regards,
Satyam
thank you so much Mr.Satyam.This is the information I wanted. Actually I got a waiver for IIIT-B exam. But I am also thinking about the MS by Research course @IIITB because generally my thinking is research oriented. But I was forced to ask you the previous question because of my family's financial status.Otherwise I love to do research. My areas of interest are Networking and Communication. So could you please help me once again in getting some information regarding how to get into MS by research in IIITB?
ReplyDeleteand what would you advice a person with mindset like me?Mtech/MS by Research.
Thanks and kudos for the patience you have been showing to people like us,who are full of questions for which solutions are hard to get by.
Not an issue....You need to apply for MS separately I guess and provide a CV to the college on the basis of which you will be called for interview....In the interview you will have to face a panel of Professors and then if selected then you can pursue your MS...You will find the details in the admission section of the college website....
DeleteRegards,
Satyam
By the way,is MS by research (VLSI design) course pursued at IIITB ?
ReplyDeleteIs there any negative marks in Entrance exam???
ReplyDeleteHey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI applied for MTech for IIIT-B and got a GRE Waiver. I am a 2011 passout and went to USA for MS, but had to return due to some family emergencies. So, I am applying for MTech this year. I have 1 year of research experience abroad, so I was thinking to present my research as a technical topic. My question is, what do they look for in the candidates and how good are the profiles of a typical IIIT-B student? Also, how do I get/apply for the M.Tech scholarships?
Thanks,
Joy
Hey Joy,
DeleteYeah you can present your research topic for the presentation....It's very difficult to say what they look for but you need to be smart during your interview....Scholarships are strictly on the basis of GATE scores and depends on the Companies...The college has nothing to do with it..
Regards,
Satyam
Are the scholarships strictly on the basis of GATE score or performance during the MTech degree?
Delete-Diptarka
Hey Diptarka,
DeleteIt completely depends on the companies providing the scholarships....They will call for interview on their own selection basis....It's not a college scholarship...But if you get a 4 GPA (out of 4) in the semester then you get a prize money from the college...
Regards,
Satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am Rupesh Kumar Sahu and my 10th, 12th, BE and Gate marks are 68.2%, 68.6%, 79.71%, 96.81%ile. Sir I have passed out BE in 2010 but not have any work experienced. As After my BE i went out to Hyderabad for GATE coaching one year and last year my Gate score was 93.88%ile. I was expecting good college by that %ile but not get. So my last year is also wasted. But I have joined my Brothers office from last 6 months but he will not issue me any working experience. So what i have to tell the interviewer panelists about it. And is this will give a wrong impression on them as everyone is having working experience.
Sir kindly clear my doubts.
Thanking you.
Hey Rupesh,
DeleteTell them what you have done in these two years....Work experience has nothing to do with selection....More than half of the batch are freshers...If you have done some relevant projects in your Btech or in these two years then do mention them....
Regards,
Satyam
hey satyam, what can you tell us about the living cost, hostel facilities and meals? How much is the monthly cost?
ReplyDeleteIts around 4 Lakhs for 2 years (1 prep-semester,4 main semesters, 1 summer semester, hostel charges for 2 complete years including fooding and hostel)
DeleteYou will find all these details in the college website itself..
And mention your names before commenting..
Regards,
Satyam
Hi,
ReplyDeleteIts a nice article.I have to prepare for IIITB interview.I am 2012 GATE qualified.I want to know how to prepare for the interview.I am from CS background.
Hello,
DeleteRead the article "Preparing for the Interview" to get the gist of the questions and how to prepare..

Hey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThe brochure mentions research in German Universities as part of final year for m.tech students. what can you tell about that? is it for everyone to apply or is there some kind of specific requirements?
many thanks,
joy
Hey Joy,
DeleteBasically the top few students get a chance to sit for the interview of selection....Only 2 or 3 students get the opportunity to visit foreign universities...
Regards,
Satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am a 2010 pass out (B.tech IT) and i have worked in CTS for about an year, after which i did a full year preparation for GATE 2012 resigning my job. I got waiver in IITB too. I don't plan for taking up IT company jobs after my M.tech, wherever i do it, because my interest lies in pursuing research and getting into the academia line. All i wanted to ask is 'Will my M.tech in IIITB be recognized well if i do it here?' (because i might get into some other reputed institutions too with my score) and 'Will i get enough support and guidance from the faculty?'. Also in case i plan to withdraw my admission if i get into NIT/PSG, will i be getting the fee back?.
Thanks and Regards,
Abi
hey abi,
DeleteI would suggest you go for MS if you are so much research oriented....IIITB offers MS so you can apply for it
Regards,
Satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteYour blog has been really helpful.
I am planning to write the iiit-b entrance this year and i have over 3+ years of experience.
I wanted to know the number of people who actually go for ph.d after the mtech program here and if so the kind of colleges they get admission into.
thanks,
Akshay
Hey Akshay,
DeleteQuite a few apply for PHD....But most of the students apply for jobs....It depends which university you want to apply...
Regards,
SAtyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice article..
I've very bad marks in my 10th, 12th and B.E. which is 71%, 68%, 68% respectively.
I've one year work experience in fairly good organization.
I've got 96.7%ile in GATE 2012.
I've got Exam waiver and I've been called for interview.
Do I have a chance to get admission considering my bad score at school ?
Thanks and Regards,
Aman
Hey Aman,
DeleteIts really hard to say who get selected as it depends on the college selection process....You try your best and you will surely get the result.
Regards,
SAtyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thanx for sharing all the gr8 info. This is really a all-you-need-to-know blog for all IIITB aspirants.
My Academic career :
X-77.6%
XII - 70.6%(2004)
2004-06 2 yrs gap for prep.
BTECH(CSE) - 61.6% 2006-2010
GATE 2012 - marks - 45.33/100 score - 498 percentile - 97.2 rank- 4341
Database Developer in a small company in bangalore from Aug 2010-May 2011(9.5 months)
Since then i got a 2 offers in small companies but both had strict bonds in them, and as i had decided to pursue mtech in 2012 so i didn't join them.
I have got call for interview with gate waiver for this year's admissions.
I want to know what my chances are and whether gaps in my education and professional career will adversely impact my admission here.
Thanks and regards,
Sitanshu
HEy Sitanshu,
DeleteThanks for the complements..... See it's really hard to answer such questions as it completely depends on the college authority how they will select the students.... The most I can say is give your best in the interview and live the rest to happen....why to worry yourself with something which is completely unpredictable...Your marks are quite in lieu except the BTech one but again you have experience as well....So I just can't comment on this...JUST GIVE YOUR BEST..
Regards,
Satyam
Hello Satya,
ReplyDeleteI have given my entrance exam on 08th of this month.I would like to know when will the results be announced??
Thanks and Regards,
Siva
I think it is 18th of this month...
DeleteRegards,
SAtyam
Hello sir,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all a big thanks to you for sharing your experience here, hardly anyone does so much effort to help others so hats off to you.
I have a GATE percentile of 98.2 with AIR 2792. I have 91% in 10th and 87% in 12th. I am thinking of choosing "Process scheduling and deadlocks" as my topic for technical talk. Would that be a good choice ? Can I explain it via a ppt or should I just use the white board ?
- Prateek
Absolutely....If you are confident of the topic then surely go ahead....I used the board....It means carrying your laptop for ppt which becomes an overhead....Its your choice how you want to do it...
DeleteRegards,
SAtyam
Hey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI went through your blog. Really helpful. I have got an interview call from IIIT-B today only. I don't have a very decent academics. It goes as
10th - 88%
12th - 64%
B-Tech - 71%
Besides this I have 2 years of experience with Infosys. Please do tell me where do I stand actually ? What are my chances to get into the institution. If there are any valuable suggestions for me kindly mail me at Apurv.786@Gmail.com. I would be very thankful to you.
Regards,
Apurv Garg
hey Apurv,
DeleteIts quite fine but you have a bit low 12th marks....It depends on the college procedure of selection....Give your best
Regards,
Satyam
Hey Satyam,
DeleteThank u very much. Moreover I would like to know If I need to carry my school time certificates with me. Since I am a working professional now do they matter?
Regards,
Apurv Garg
Class 10th, 12th and grad certificates are mandatory....rest depends upon u.....If u feel they are worth showing then do carry...
DeleteHello Stayam,

Satyam yesterday i got mail to attend an interveiw on 2nd May(I gave online test on 8th).

And should I prepare deeper in the topic selected and if u have any suggestion please give
Thanks and Regards

Hey Nitish,
DeleteThats perfectly fine.....I am an ECE grad too and I gave the talk on Mobile COmmunication.....You just need to be clear of what you will be explaining.....
Read my article "Preparing for Interview" for suggestions

Hi,,
ReplyDeleteI posted a question in the blog before about the placements etc,,you answered all those, thanks for that,it was really helpful,my brother's interview is on 4th may 2012,reporting time is 9:00am,it is the first time we are coming to bangalore,I have no idea about the lodges and stuff,we are from hyderabad,we are planning to come there on 4th may morning,we need some time to freshen up,are there any good lodges in electronics city so that we can stop by there and come to college,i know this blog is about information related to IIIT but since we are carrying original certificates,we need to be bit careful,so can you suggest any good lodges in electronics city or is it better to choose a lodge near the bus station?? We are planning to come there on 4th may morning itself,if you can suggest a good lodge ,that would be very helpful to us,,,,
Thanks for the patience dude,,your blog is exceptional and really helpful..
Regards,
shiva kumar.
hey shiva,
ReplyDeletethere are a few hotels over here but they are too costly....So if you can afford them then try for Lords Plaza which is just next to the college....Else its better to stay near bus stand....It takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to reach college from busstand in the morning hours, so start accordingly....
Regards,
Satyam.
thanks dude,,,thanx for your time,,
ReplyDeleteHey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteCan you tell about the average pay of passout M.Tech students from IIIT-B? Also, which companies came to campus last year? Are the students get paid in 4th semester for their industrial internships? If so, then how much?
Thanks a lot,
Joy
Hey Joy,
ReplyDeleteAverage pay ranges from 6.5 to 8 lpa.....All the companies listed in college website are the ones which visit each year.....Yes students get paid in the 4th semester internship which again ranges from 20k to 30k...
Regards,
Satyam
Hello Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI think ur B.tech background is relatd 2 ECE. I am jus curious abt the stream in which u r specializing now in M.Tech. Also , my btech stream was ECE and i am not good at c or cplus or java. will dey ask us abt programmin languages in interview like 2 write a program etc.any idea?

hiii sushma,
ReplyDeleteyeah I am an ECE graduate.....But I am doing my mtech in database systems....But there are options like Network & communications and Embedded Systems....They might ask but basically they will ask general type questions...

HI SATYAM
ReplyDeletethanx 4 d reply :)
r placements good fr netwrk n communications/ embedded systems...i want to go with that stream only...( jus in case d interviewer asks wat m intrstd in i dnt wan2 fumble b4 him )i cant handle coding for long
Hey sushma,
DeletePlacements are good for all branch....you should not worry.....See u r from ECE branch so they wont expect much of coding from u....So don't get tensed....give your best....They want to see how much urge you have for studying and how good u r while expressing yourself..
Regards,
Satyam
thanks fr d reply again... i know i am asking 2 many quests i will try 2 make this 1 the last... I did BTECH from a normal college and got 77.27 aggregate, 12th was 90 and X 86. my GRE was 1270, i dint get any exam waiver, i took the written test and got interview call, so will it be a plus point if I still put my gre score card. Also, I completed B.tech in MAY 2011 and got placd in mahindra satyam but the joining is in july 2012. I dint do anything at all i mean no work experience all these months. Will this effect my interview. any idea?

Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience.
I have a working experience in IT industry for 1 year and 10 months. I have been working as SAP developer. But I stream was ECE in college.
I'm a little worried in choosing the topic for technical presentation.
Should the topic be related to something from Electronics back ground or can go a head on SAP architecture?
I am interested in having Networks and communications as my specialization, so I am more inclined to go with presenting on SAP architecture as it includes System hierarchies like server-client systems.
So, can I go ahead with a topic which is out of ECE?
Thanks for your patience in addressing queries of everyone.
Really appreciate your concern.
Thanks,
-Sandeep
Hey Sandeep,
DeleteIts completely fine whichever topic you choose....But you should have a very clear idea about your presentation...

Satyam
Dear Satyam da,
ReplyDeleteCan you please forward me your mail id as i had a few more queries about the selection process and the college.
Hey Manali,

Thanks satyam da! :)
DeleteYour blog has really shown all of us the way
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience and helping us get an idea about IIIT,B.
I was wondering if its okay to carry a small note (which has some points and stuff for the talk) with me?
Also, do the interviewers ask questions from B.E ?
Thanks,
Poonam
Hey Poonam,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds a bit odd....It won't look nice if you carry notes...Prepare them such that you don't need any of such help.....May be they can ask ...it depends on the interviewer....but generally its not asked..

Satyam
Hi
ReplyDeleteI am student with instrumentation back ground....and have decided to prepare the topic on my core subjects like sensors and all will it harm if i prepare something out of computer world????

hi satyam,
ReplyDeletei am rahul from punjab.
i got
83% in 10th,
76% in 12th,
my btech % till 7th sem is 74.
my gate %tile was 92 so i have to give entrance exam and i cleared it.
Now my question is can i get admission in iiitb for mtech. Should i go for interview??? Is there any chance for my selection???
and 1 more thing how many back logs(cleared) are allowed for selection??
Please reply asap
Regards,
Rahul
hey Rahul,
DeleteIf you perform well in the interview you obviously have a good chance of selection.....I think they allow 1 or 2 backlogs before taking admission but you need to clear them before joining...... All da best

Hi Sir,
ReplyDeleteU told us that u gave presentation on Mobile comm. so what Q. they asked on it....as i hav d interview call from IIIT & i have an work experience @ Huawei comm On Core mobile comm so m planning to prepare my topic either on mobile comm or sampling theoram...
pl suggest
hey adi,
Deletefirst of all we don't address each other as "Sir" over here, so avoid that......it depends on the interviewer.....in my interview the interviewer asked about how the call gets transferred, what happens when you change a cell and move on to another cell etc...when you present they will ask in the flow...

Satyam
hi:-)
ReplyDeleteI am Sree Harsha from Bangalore. I graduated from Amrita School of Engineering in 2011. I got placed in Wipro but chose to study further. However, i took a break of a year and prepared well for exams though my GATE result doesn't reflect it. How much will this point be against me during interview? I plan to give a presentation on Tunnel diode or Tranistor- construction, working, characteristics..will that be fine? I've read a senior advising not to explain about block diagram of a microcontroller..is it the same here too?
Thanks in advance:-)
Hey Harsha,
Deleteperfectly fine.....go ahead with your presentation....if you are confident with the subject then you can present anything....and your year loss does't impact ..... All da best

hi satyam,
ReplyDeleteyour blog is very informative. i'm an ECE graduate with 82.19% in engineering, 89.9 % in 12th and 83.8 % in 10th. i hav a gate rank of 2714 in 2012. i'm a 2011 passout, worked in a electronics core company for 5 months(till november 2011) on embedded systems.i quit the job since i wanted to pursue my career in research and to study for gate.my gate score is not good.
i got entrance exam fee waiver in iiitb and my interview date is on 4th may.does iiitb has enough research exposure? i wanted to pursue phd after my masters. are there any chances of getting into good foreign universities( ivy league universities or any other good universities abroad) or on iits with masters from iiitb( provided i perform well in academics and hav good research work in masters).
hey divya,
Deleteu always have a good option after u study from this institute.....the institute has tie ups with some foreign universities where u can go for interns in the final semester....research depends on ur hardwork but u will get utmost opportunities if u want to do...

Satyam
Hey satyam
ReplyDeletecan i take ip subnetting and internet protocol stack for my presentation.how do i present my topic.. should i take laptop ...is this topic enough..should i include block diagrams..plz help me
hey ani,
Deleteany topic is fine provided u have a good understanding of the topic and have the capability to present it well before the interviewer...i suggest u come well prepared and use the white board to explain ur topics with diagrams as needed..

Satyam
Dear Satyam,
ReplyDeleteHats off for ur patience in answering scads of questions.
IIIT-Bangalore is not AICTE approved if I'm not wrong. Please throw some light on this. How much does it affect my career prospects.
Along with that, I would like to know more about it's tie up with foreign universities and product based companies. Please mention about actual scenario in students doing internship at such companies and uni and How many actually stand a chance to get into such universities. I am passionate about working in such companies and universities rather than going for consulting jobs.
The faculty here, I must say, is world class going by the profile displayed on website. Is this the actual scenario at IIIT-B.??
Thank you. You are doing a very commendable job.
Regards
Sanket Sheth
hey sanket,
DeleteI find this issue quite prominent within almost all students that iiitb is not AICTE approved....It is a deemed university registered under Govt of Karnataka and is well accepted across the country....It will not affect ur career at all...
Yes the site cites the truth about the profs who are actually world class which you will feel once you join the institute....The college has tie ups with certain foreign universities where u can go to fetch ur interns but that is limited to very few students...Students get to do interns in companies like Cisco, Emc2, intuit, duesche bank, ibm etc etc in the final sem.....

Satyam
Hi satyam,
ReplyDeleteMy name is gaurav .Through written exam that was conducted by IIITB, i have selected for an interview. It had been scheduled by IITB on May 2, 2012. I have Gre score 1110 and toefl score 65. due to low score in toefl and family problem i didn't apply for MS in U.S also not retake my toefl exam. should i mention these scores in C.V.

Gaurav Dokania
hey Gaurav,
Deleteyou have to present the topic in front of the faculty as a seminar topic by using the white board.... Literally you have to teach the topic and the faculty will ask questions which you have to answer...prepare the topic well and present it as clearly as possible....then if you don't know the answer to a question, admit it and move on.... Its upto you whether you want to present it in your cv but generally profs don't see cv's....All the best..

Satyam
hi satyam,
ReplyDeleteanjali here. on which day of interview were you called?are dates of interview given randomly or on basis of merit? also my b.tech project is not very strong. Will they ask question from my project even if i dont mention it?
hey anjali,
Deletewat will u do with my interview date....its past!!
Dates are completely randomized and nothing to do with merit....They may ask or may not, depends on the interviewer...just have a knowledge on the project that's it...All da best

Deletehey satyam!
ReplyDeletegood article, very informative! I was wondering about the technical talk that we are supposed to prepare, should the topic be from something that we've had in our curriculum or some running topic in computer science?
Regards.
SREERAAG
hey Sreeraag,
Deleteu can choose any topic as per your wish......may it be from ur curriculum or a trending topic provided you know the topic quite well..

hey Girish,
ReplyDeleteGo through the article "Preparing for Interview" in the same blog where I shared how to prepare for the interview....you will get a knowledge of the questions that are asked in the interview.....prepare a subject well and then present it well in the interview....A lot depends on this presentation....All the best
Regards,
Satyam
Bravo Satyam!
ReplyDeleteVery well written.. appreciate this.
I am too good in java as well as love teaching and giving seminars.
Which will be good topic for me?
A)Collections
B)Generics
C)Servlet, Beans, MVC Architecture..etc. from advance java
D)any other you can suggest in Java?
I am playing too safe by choosing java related topics. Is it a good move or my chance decreases a bit as I've not selected core subject?
Should I really prepare for any topic related to core sub.s like OS,DBMS..etc.?
hey Jinal,
ReplyDeletethe interviewer wants to see how well u can express urself while explaining a topic......I dont think u can do that while explaining java....It will be of much use when u go for a campus interview where they needs to see ur programming skills....If u r so desperate to explain java itself then u may go ahead with mvc applications...why it came into existence...what was the prob of previous models and so....but again it doesn't sound too good to me....u shud go for a core topic from ur field and explain it.... it was my advice....it's ultimately ur wish wat u want to go with...
Regards,
Satyam.
is resume needed???
ReplyDeletehey sushma,
DeleteIts better to carry it along.....

hi satyam,
ReplyDeleteare students having high gate score given more preference than those selected through written exam. i am gate qualified but just 92%. out of 150 students selected approx how many are through written exam ?
Nothing as such.....everyone has the same priority...No of students selected depends each year.....

Hi,
ReplyDeleteYour blog has been really helpful. I just wanted to know if it will be fine to explain my B.tech project in the presentation? It was on 3D Speech Synthesis. Or is it better to choose a topic from core subjects like OS, DBMS, etc.?
hey Aayushee,
Deleteits absolutely fine with the topic.....go ahead with it and do well...All da best
Regards,
satyam
Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteIs Mobile Ad Hoc Networks(MANETS), like what is it its issues and all a good topic ?
Hey Sushma,
DeleteIts absolutely fine topic.....Go ahead and prepare it well....While explaining I recommend to use the white board and explain it as nicely as possible...All the Best

DeleteHi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteMy interview is scheduled on 2nd of may. I am quite nervous this time. I didn't write GATE but waiver exam. I have 1yr3months experience in web based application development. My acedemics are not that bad(86 in 10th, 72 in 12th and 79 in B.Tech). I want to know whether I have chances to get into IIIT-B. Should I prepare for other subjects also apart from the presentation topic? Is the interview purely technical?
Please reply as soon as possible.
hey Sanya,
DeleteInterview is to test your potential and may sometimes get technical.....Don't panic at all....Take it normal and give your best....Prepare your topic well and its enough to have the basic knowledge you gained in your BTech..
All the best
Regards,
Satyam
i am from CSE branch.
ReplyDeleteBtech percentage-66.7%
12th-83.8%
10th-69.88%
i cleared iiitb entrance exam.
my new GRE score is 302(quant-163,verb-139).but i got interview call letter through iiitb entrance exam.what are my chances for getting of admission in iiitb.can i mention my gre score in interview?what type of technical topics can i prepare for interview?
please clarify doubts.
Hey Krishna,
DeleteIt's unfair to answer these types of questions....They depend on the administration selection process....You do your part well....Any BTech topic or any topic which interests you will do for the interview...All the best
Regards,
Satyam
hey satyam,
ReplyDeleteis tech talk strictly limited 2 5 minutes as mentioned in email?. i need atleast ten mins 2 cover it!!
ty !
It depends.... Sometimes it may last for 20 minutes and sometimes the interviewer may tell u to end it within 5 minutes....So prepare as much as you find suitable....
DeleteRegards,
SAtyam
hiii can i select the OSI reference model 7 layers for technical topic
ReplyDeleteYeah its fine......Go ahead.... But prepare it well
DeleteRegards,
Satyam
Hi satyam. My interview is on 3rd of may. And I am still confused with the topic I should choose. I prepared for oops concept which included all the elements of oops but my friends found it not impressive. As it was very basic and everybody knows about it so well. Does the topic selection matter ??? What actually they see in a candidate -- How much the candidate knows about the technology or the way he or she represents the topic??? Should I opt the one which is new and not so basic. Please reply as soon as possible as I have just one day left to prepare. Thank you ..
ReplyDeleteThe interviewer mainly sees how much confident you r with your topic and how well you can explain it which needs depth in knowledge....So whichever topic you choose doesn't really matter much if you can explain it well... Remember that the interviewer has to judge you in a matter of say 15 minutes .... so you need to show your potential.... Don't get panicked... Go in cool minded and perform well... All da best
DeleteRegards,
Satyam
Hey Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about using Introducing HTML5 as my technical topic. Do you think it is ok? Or should i go into something specific from undergrad subjects. Thanks
Go ahead....All the best..
DeleteDear sir,
ReplyDeleteI tried with the white board and I think I can't write that well on the white board and at the same time its pretty time consuming as well. It leaves no time to explain the rest of the concepts.
Is explaining via a ppt allowed ? I hope it wouldn't leave a negative impression ?
During my interview I was offered a pen and a paper....instead i opted for the whiteboard.....I don't know whether ppts will be allowed....You go ahead with whatever you are comfortable with...
DeleteAll the beat

Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteI am very tensed about my final year project. It has a program and simulation in matlab. I have no idea about taht program and i am unable 2 understand it now! I jua have idea about project but our poject was a total mess with noproper guidance and all. Will project play an important role?
Hey sushma,
Deleteyou just need to know your project...no need to explain the code and all....Bee cool ... there's nothing to worry at all.
All the best

satyam
can i prepare 'storage system environment' or 'RAID' topic in information storage system which is one of the electives subject during my b.tech.. for iiitb interview as a technical topic.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fine....Go ahead
DeleteAll the best.

Satyam
thanku..
Deletehi..will they ask questions related to outside of our technical topic but within that subject?and whether we need to have original eamcet score card also while attending iiitb interview?
ReplyDeleteThey may ask...depends on the interviewer...... I don't think it is necessary....
DeleteThanks a lot Satyam, for replying all the time. Will let u knw if i am in and even if i am not. thamk u :)
ReplyDeleteHello Satyam Da,
ReplyDeleteI had my interview at IIIT B today. I presented the technical topic as Huffman Codes and the interviewer only asked me to explain the topic and very few 2-3 question related to it. Apart from that I wasn't asked other questions and my interview lasted for about 10 mins. My presentation of the topic was quite good as i think. Now can you tell me that as wasn't asked many counter questions like my friends faced, is it a negative point that the interviewer didn't liked the topic i presented?
-Diptarka
hey Diptarka,
DeleteIts nothing like that....it depends upon the interviewer and the mood he is in at the time of the interview....If you feel that you have done well then wait for the results and you will get good results,,,,All the best

Satyam
Hi Satyam,
ReplyDeleteThis friday i have the interview. I have two years of work experience, can i talk about OS as a whole? or do i need to be specific like Threads, scheduling ? Please help me
Thanks in advance
hey Ankita,
DeleteYou have some 5-10 minutes to present your topic....So taking os as a whole seems to be quite big...i think it would be better if you choose a particular topic in which you are very comfortable and present it well....All the best
Regards,
Satyam
can i take a technical topic NORMALISATION for interview
ReplyDeleteYeah u can...if u think you can do justice with a topic then u can take it....
DeleteHi, let me share my experience. I went there by 8 got done with all the formalities by 9. And I was the first one to be interviewed. My interviewer, now I know was Prof. Muralidhara V.N. The interview lasted for 25 mins and it was full on technical. He asked some questions on Binary Heap and BST. Then gave me a problem and told me to write an algorithm for it. So, I did and the complexity was O(n^2), then he told me to reduce it and then I made it to O(nlogn). Then he started discussing with me if it can be reduced further and this went on till the end until we reached a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteNo presentation was asked and no HR type questions. I am glad that I had a very satisfying discussion with such a wonderful discussion and it didn't feel like interview anytime. At the end, he asked me if I have decided to pursue M.Tech from IIIT-B. I said yes and it was over.
Fingers crossed. To all the other friends, keep your cool and present your thought well and the rest will be fine.
Joy.
